Amazing brunch place in New Orleans! Got the wild white shrimp which was so flavorful and juicy. I tried a little of the turtle soup and it was too salty for me personally. The environment in this restaurant feels very classy. However, I was the most pleasantly surprised by the 25 cent martinis during lunch. They were delicious yet strong and 25 cents!! You got 3, but that was more than enough to enjoy the rest of your day.
Portion sizes were filling as well. We also tried the creole bread pudding soufflé and the warm whiskey sauce really added a nice kick to a potentially overly sweet dessert.
Waiters and everyone were incredibly kind as well, and addressed any questions we had about New Orleans in general!
Overall, a must go to if you're in New Orleans especially during lunch! -

We went to Commander's Palace for their brunch service and were very glad that we did. There was no problem getting reservations and we were shown our table as soon as we walked in the door. The service was incredible. The waitstaff was very attentive and well-informed on the menu and specials of the day.
There was a charming jazz trip wandering around taking requests and entertaining the diners. They were very friendly and we noticed them taking time out ot tell out of towners about local customs and attractions that they might want to visit, which was very cool.
For drinks we had Mimosas and Bloody Mary's. Both are excellant, made with high quality liquor but my one complaint would be that the Mimosa was only half full. For what they charge -it could have been a little fuller.
We chose to do the regular brunch instead of the jazz brunch option. For our appetizers we started with the trio of soups and the oyster pastry "dome" appetizer. The dome was full of large, succulent oyster and the sauce was very well prepared.
The soups weren't quite as great. The traditional turtle soup was interesting, but the extra splash of Sherry wasn't the best idea. All you could taste was the Sherry, as it really overpowered the rest of the dish. The gumbo and chicken andouille sausage gumbo was fantastic and full of spice and flavor. The third soup was the worst- a Redfish Bisque. There was a terrible fishy taste to it and the whole dish left a greasy feel on the inside of our mouths. Finally the garlic toast points that were brought to the table were wonderful- not too soggy, not too crisp and the perfect amount of garlic butter on top.
For the entrees we had the BBQ Shrimp and Grits and Eggs Cochon Du Lait. Both entrees were excellent. There were 6 large shrimp that were perfectly cooked and seasoned on a bed of grits. The Eggs came with 2 large poached eggs, biscuits and Cochon du Lait that was very tender. Overall we were very pleased with the entrees.
For dessert we chose the Pecan Pie with ice cream and candied pecans and the Cheesecake with caramel sauce. The desserts are huge. There is no way you will be able to finish these after stuffing yourself full of their other delicious food.
But both desserts were incredible, and we aren't even huge fans of too many sweets. The presentation is lovely- the Cheesecake is served with a piece of chocolate "lattice" and the Pie plate is decorated with swirled sugar and candied pecans.
Overall this was a wonderful restaurant to try. We highly recommend it to anyone coming in the city looking for a nice, fun meal. It is pricey, but worth it.
There is also complementary valet parking and the parking attendants were very gracious and offered to take our picture by the sign after dinner. -

What a place, what an institution!
The beginning of the night, that walk through the kitchen out the back and to our table, it was a good sell, it was made to feel like we were something special.
I started with the taster of soups, each one was nicer than the other. Fabulous. It was turtle, cream of broccoli and fish gumbo, I can see why they get such rave reviews here.
The service was very good, the waiters oozed confidence in going down the menu, the sommelier was always at hand.
Main course grilled vegetables, they were done to perfection. Surprising how many restaurants don't even get the right char on a zucchini.
I also had a starter of shrimp in a thick sweet sauce. Saw that reproduced on Top Chef and had to go for it. Very unusual, and delightful.
My main was also fish, a big serving, full of flavor, I can't remember what type of fish it was though!
I didn't make it to dessert, I saw the bread pudding soufflé which is prepared in front of you, another few reasons to head back to NOLA!
I'm giving it a four for the consistency, service and quality. I've taken a stripe off given the price, but I'd go back there for sure. -

"I welcome you to Crackerbox Palace
We've been expecting you"
(George Harrison)
You won't find any Cracker-boxes on the menu at this Palace. But what you will find on the menu at Commander's Palace will be amazing, that's a definite.
And if you are heading to this Palace, be sure you dress appropriately because the Commander has a fairly strict dress code:
* Business Attire
* Jackets are preferred for gentlemen
* Collared shirts and closed-toed shoes required for gentlemen
* No shorts, flip-flops, t-shirts, sweat shirts or sweat pants
* Jeans are discouraged; ripped jeans are not allowed
We had dinner reservations, of course, because this is a signature restaurant in New Orleans. Into our meal, we noticed that the dining room was jam packed. One nice touch at the Palace when you make your reservation is the ability to say you're celebrating a birthday or an anniversary. If you so this, you'll have a balloon bouquet at your table, like we did.
A complimentary basket of garlic bread came out to greet us and look...we all know how delicious garlic bread can be, right? But trust me, this version was the Leonardo Da Vinci of garlic breads!
We started off with three cocktails, Fuzzy Buffalo, Apple Milk Punch, and Blood and Sand and Chocolate. All ran between $9 and $12.
I went with the Blood and Sand, a potent combination of Scotch, Cherry Herring, Sweet Vermouth, and cacao. It definitely set the tone for a great meal!
The menu offers a three-course meal option with your choice of a soup or salad, entrée and dessert. This is where we all went.
For appetizers, we went with a Soup du Jour (tomato bisque), a Salad Du Jour, and a first-time choice for me -- Turtle Soup!!
No, you don't get pet store sized turtles in your bowl, but you do get finely shredded turtle meat in your soup. The menu describes it as "The Commander's classic that takes three days to make - finished tableside with aged sherry ($9)". That three days of preparation was time well spent because it was delicious.
Our entrees were Andouille Spiced Gulf Shrimp ($39), Double Cut Pork Chop ($46), and an Apple Lacquered Texas Quail ($44).
My shrimp entrée was magnificent! How does this sound? "Seared Louisiana wild white shrimp crusted with garlic and Creole spices over cane cured tomatoes, red beans, charred Vidalia onions, and warm housemade andouille vinaigrette". And if that description alone made you drool, I can assure you that the taste was even more drool worthy!
Desserts get a little tricky on the three-course meal option - you can order a dessert from the regular menu with little complication, but if you want one of their two special desserts (Creole Bread Pudding Souffle or Autumn Spiced Apple Shortcake), they'll have to be ordered first with a $3 surcharge.
My wife and I went to the regular menu for a Praline Parfait and a Creole Cream Cheese Cheesecake, while my son went for the Creole Bread Pudding. All three were ridiculously good.
The service was impeccable, and our splurge dinner for three ran a pretty reasonable $188 before tip.
There's a reason why Commander's Palace is one of New Orleans most popular restaurants. We had a wonderful experience there. -

Cuisine Excellence!
My husband celebrated his birthday at the Commander's Palace in New Orleans! The experience and food were amazing.
My husband ordered the shrimp and I ordered the Quail.
He was very pleased with his dish, but I was flabbergasted by mine. I have a shellfish allergy and the waiter and staff were more than happy to accommodate me.
The quail was perfectly seasoned and tender to touch ! The bird was down right over the top!!! It's lushness and richness was to die for. I would highly recommend this dish. I honestly don't think you could go wrong with anything on this menu! It's a foodies paradise!!!
